American destinations are offering discounts and promotions as tensions between the United States and Canada continue to affect cross-border tourism
Tourism destinations across the United States are stepping up efforts to bring back one of the country’s most important groups of international visitors: Canadians.
From Las Vegas to New York, tourism organizations have launched advertising campaigns, promotions and discounts specifically aimed at travelers from Canada.
The push follows a sharp decline in travel between the two countries.
Travel fell 25%
According to data cited by the Associated Press, travel by Canadians to the United States fell 25% in 2025.
Spending by Canadian visitors also dropped by approximately $2.4 billion.
The decline came amid growing political and trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa.
Some Canadian travelers have also started choosing other international destinations, including Mexico, instead of traveling to the United States.
U.S. destinations offer incentives
American tourism organizations are now trying to reverse that trend.
Campaigns targeting Canadian travelers include discounts and special offers designed to offset concerns about the exchange rate and make U.S. trips more attractive.
The situation is particularly important for destinations that traditionally welcome large numbers of Canadian visitors during the winter.
States such as Florida and Arizona, for example, attract thousands of so-called snowbirds every year, Canadians who leave colder parts of the country and spend several months in warmer U.S. destinations.
The upcoming winter travel season could provide an important indication of whether the U.S. tourism industry’s efforts are succeeding in bringing some of those Canadian visitors back.
