Rockport and Wimberley are drawing attention from visitors looking for nature, weekend getaways and destinations outside the traditional tourist circuit
Not every trip across the United States has to involve a major city or one of the country’s best-known tourist destinations.
Two small Texas towns have been drawing attention from travelers: Rockport and Wimberley.
Data released by vacation rental platform HomeToGo pointed to growing interest in the destinations, reflecting broader demand for domestic trips centered around nature and smaller communities.
Rockport combines the coast and nature
Located on the Texas coast near Corpus Christi, Rockport offers an alternative for travelers looking for the beach without automatically heading to Florida or California.
Beaches, fishing and wildlife watching are among the activities available in the area.
The town can also serve as a starting point for exploring other destinations along the Texas Gulf Coast.
Natural swimming spots in Wimberley
The experience is completely different in Wimberley, located in the Texas Hill Country.
The small town is known for its natural scenery and spring-fed swimming areas.
Among the best-known locations are Blue Hole Regional Park and Jacob’s Well Natural Area. Swimming access and visitor rules can vary depending on environmental conditions, availability and local restrictions.
Beyond nature, Wimberley has small shops, restaurants and galleries, making it an option for short getaways from cities such as Austin and San Antonio.
Small towns gain attention
Interest in Rockport and Wimberley reflects a travel trend toward smaller domestic destinations and experiences outside major tourism centers.
For Texas residents or travelers visiting the state, both towns can work well for a weekend getaway or short road trip.
