“Perfect” homes are giving way to more personal interiors this fall

A new report points to cozier spaces, natural materials, vintage pieces and wellness-focused rooms as major home trends for fall 2026

After years of ultra-minimalist interiors and rooms that looked ready for a catalog photo shoot, a different style is gaining momentum in American homes.

Fall 2026 decor is becoming more personal, warmer and less perfect.

Houzz’s new Fall Design Trends Report points to growing demand for homes that look as though they have evolved over time, combining new furniture with vintage pieces, personal objects and natural materials.

Gray is losing ground

Cool color palettes are also beginning to give way to warmer tones.

Creamy whites, browns, soft greens and different wood tones are among the choices highlighted by design professionals.

Natural stone, aged metals, wood and handcrafted finishes are also being used to bring more texture into interiors.

The home is becoming a wellness space

Another shift goes beyond appearance.

Saunas, meditation areas and dedicated wellness spaces are becoming part of residential design.

According to Houzz, 61% of renovating homeowners expect to remain in their homes for at least another 11 years, which is also driving interest in spaces designed to adapt to different stages of life.

The trend reflects a shift away from creating immaculate rooms designed to impress and toward homes that feel comfortable, functional and connected to the people who live in them.
