From September through November, Hollywood is preparing a wave of releases ranging from blockbusters and horror films to dramas, animation and potential Oscar contenders
Summer may be ending, but the U.S. movie calendar is far from slowing down.
The fall movie season begins in September with a wave of releases expected to dominate theaters and streaming platforms through Thanksgiving.
September releases include “By Any Means,” starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg, as well as “Mayday,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.
October brings more major releases
In October, the lineup includes “The Social Reckoning,” from Aaron Sorkin, and “Animals,” starring Ben Affleck.
Horror will also have a strong presence with productions including “Clayface” and “Other Mommy.”
The schedule combines traditional theatrical releases with movies produced for streaming platforms.
November brings major franchises
One of the season’s most anticipated titles arrives in November.
“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” brings the Hunger Games universe back to movie theaters.
Other scheduled releases include “Practical Magic 2,” “The Cat in the Hat” and “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,” starring Johnny Depp.
At the same time, fall marks the beginning of more serious conversations about the 2027 Academy Awards.
Among the movies beginning to appear in early awards predictions is Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” along with independent and international productions making their way through major film festivals during the second half of the year.
