Snoopy gets a New York exhibition celebrating art, fashion and pop culture

Free Meatpacking District exhibition features clothing, major brand collaborations and the character’s transformation into a global cultural icon

One of America’s most recognizable comic strip characters has a new exhibition in New York City.

“Snoopy in Style NYC” opened this week in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, bringing together fashion, art and objects connected to Snoopy’s history.

Admission is free, and the exhibition runs through September 26.

Snoopy dressed by major brands

One of the highlights is a collection of Snoopy and Woodstock figures wearing clothing created through collaborations with brands including Adidas, Coach and Levi’s.

The Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center also participated in the project.

The exhibition revisits a tradition that began decades ago, when designers started creating clothing specifically for Peanuts characters.

From comic strips to pop culture

Snoopy first appeared in the comic strip created by Charles Schulz and has taken on countless personalities over the decades.

He has been a World War I Flying Ace, an athlete, a student and, of course, the famous Joe Cool.

In 1968, the character also developed a connection with NASA. The Silver Snoopy Award is presented to employees and contractors for contributions to astronaut safety and mission success.

The exhibition highlights how a character created for newspaper comic strips crossed generations and expanded into fashion, advertising, art and design.
